Nicole Ari Parker is an American stage and film actress who is known for her role as the fiery attorney Teri Joseph on the Showtime series Soul Food. Nikki Kodjoe became her stage name upon her marriage. Her birthplace and childhood was within Baltimore Maryland. As an infant, she showed an aptitude for acting. She received the Top Actress Award in a Maryland High School Contest. In the years following her work in theater, as well as 'The Washington Ballet Company' she graduated with a degree in acting from 'New York University. She attended boarding school in London from seven to nine years old, then her family relocated into Toronto, Canada, where she spent the majority of her youth and early adulthood. In 2002, Canadian critics praised her performance in 92 productions of the play. Contractor was given the chance to take part in the conservatory program, where only eight males and four females are selected for a course lasting 20 weeks in classical theatre, which she eagerly took. Contractor was offered a place for the next season, and was offered the role of Hermia.
